The end of a long journey

Well, I can tell anyone who asks, "I'm a teacher," and when they ask where, I can say, "Crawford High School." How cool is that now! And it's the journalism, creative writing, and drama position. Monday is my first day and it should be very interesting and exciting.

Down to the wire....

Reflecting on my first two interviews, I really wasn't prepared. I was nervous and basically told them what they wanted to hear, instead of showing them what I can do.

I interviewed this morning with La Jolla High school. It was an overall good experience because I felt I was prepared. However, it was a little intimidating because it was a panel of four people, including a parent. I was much more relaxed. It might have had something to do with the girl I was talking with earlier before the interview. She was interviewing for the same position, but we had a polite and casual conversation, which I think put me at ease.

I have another interview today at one. One interesting note is that the job covers journalism, drama, and creative writing. This would be a very fun position.

It figures...

I got a phone call today from another school. Talk about waiting till the last minute. I'm trying to set up an interview for tomorrow, but I'm having trouble getting through the phone system.

The light at the end of the tunnel...

Just when I thought I was going to have to substitute teach for another semester, I got a call from my friend, Jen. Her school lost 3 English teachers the week before. She told her principal about me, and she told her to tell me to call her. So I did last Friday. I thought I would've heard from them this morning, but I didn't. So I got worried again, and called Jen.

She had been in meetings during the morning because it was the first day back for the teachers. But we talked about what was going on and she told me to call and leave another message, and that she would be up in the office, so she'd remind the principal to call me.

The principal's secretary called and told me she didn't know when the principal would be able to talk to me right now because it's a little crazy. But, if all goes well, I'll be teaching at Morse High school.

...and waiting...and waiting....

However, I did something a little adventurous today. I was surfing around the net at other districts and called Grossmont about a job posting. The job just happened to be at a school that I was interested in, Mt. Miguel. So I dropped off an application. What have I got to loose? I'm waiting around the phone anyway.

And still waiting

Does this town even need teachers? I can get a job today in Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, and Hawaii, even in Las Vegas...but the districts here are just waiting till the last minute. So I'll be stressed the first week when I'm hired.

Two steps closer...

WOO-HOO!

Finally a phone call, AND an e-mail. Hopefully, I'll get some calls. Maybe even tomorrow.
