Rain

The day went by rather easily. Because of the rain, the only thing my first period could do was walk the basketball courts. We then went into the cafeteria, which is where 2nd and 4th periods had to stay because of the heaviest rains. The teacher I subbed for had a 3rd period prep, which meant I could have sat around for an hour, but the school gave me another class to cover, and of all subjects, math. The students behaved very well, with the exception of one, who upon my arrival, was standing in the rain getting wet. I had one student who was in my 1st period PE class, and he told the other students that I was cool. That really helped. The part that was hard was when some of the students came up and asked me questions. I think Mr. Taylor and Mrs. Overholt, former math teachers, would have been proud. I was able to answer the questions on volume with little hesitation.

My 4th period PE class had several students that I taught in Options. They were actually good compared to some of the "regular" punk-ass students who were trouble makers. I was especially impressed with the 8th grade Options students who sat quietly at a table and talked. The sun came out during my last two periods and they had to walk. So I had to stand and supervise. That is the part that was tiring. I did walk with a couple of students from Options. I just wanted to know how they were doing because they were able to go into regular classes.

I would have accepted a 3 day teaching assignment at a high school, but because of all the rain, I had to deal with flooding under the house and in the garage. It's a good thing that the sun came out for at least a couple of days.

My first job

I accepted my first substitute teaching job. I had two jobs waiting in my voice mail, one was an English position at a high school. I decided on the P.E. job at the school I finished my student teaching at because I needed to pick something up from my master teacher. I also know where the school is and know some of the students. It will be interesting and I can wear comfortable clothes too.

Waiting....

I've submitted my applications and now I must wait for the phone calls. One telling me I'm all ready to substitute teach and another that I have an interview. I hope the interview comes soon and I can relax knowing that I've found a teaching position.

Rest and relaxation...

It is my second day of not teaching. I miss the students and going down to the school. I submitted my application to the district and must now wait it out. When I dropped off my application, the receptionist told me that I also had to apply on line, which meant that I would have to scan and attach all the information I just turned in. However, she told me to wait and she would talk to the application technician in human resources. Turns out they will accept my application and I won't have to spend the 2 hours filling out the application, scanning, and attaching. They are in the process of implementing a new system of applying on-line, but since it just started this week, they will take written applications. I put down that I would take a position this school year, next fall, and substitution. It would be great if a job suddenly opened, but then again, I can hear my niece singing the song to Dangerous Minds if that were to happen.
